Peter Anders
Birthplace: Essen, Kingdom of Prussia
Peter Anders was a German tenor who studied in Berlin with Ernst Grenzebach and Lula Mysz-Gmeiner, whose daughter he married. After a debut at Heidelberg in 1932 he sang at Darmstadt (1933–34), Cologne (1934–35) and Hanover (1935–37) before joining the Munich State Opera in 1937, where he created A Piedmontese in Strauss's Friedenstag the following year. From 1938 to 1948 he also sang at the Berlin State Opera. The Nazi regime exempted him from military service, a favour that cost him standing after the war. He moved into dramatic roles from 1949, and died in 1954 after a car accident.
