Mikhail Bocharov

Mikhail Bocharov was a Russian bass-baritone who sang Andrey Shchelkalov at the 1928 Leningrad premiere of the original 1869 Boris Godunov. He took a law degree at Kiev while studying singing there under Camille Everardi, finished in Milan, and built a repertory of some ninety roles in a career that moved between Kiev, Moscow, Odessa, Baku and the private companies of St Petersburg. From 1923 to 1928 he was a soloist of the Leningrad State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, singing the title role in the first Russian staging of Berg's Wozzeck, which Boris Asafyev thought unforgettable.
