George Carleton

George Carleton was an American character actor who broke a stage career in half to run a theatre. He began as an actor, left performing in 1924 to manage the Rivera Theater in Brooklyn, went back to it in 1928 and reached Broadway in the 1930s, taking the spoken part of the Coroner in the first Porgy and Bess. From 1939 he worked almost wholly in film, appearing in more than a hundred pictures in ten years, most of them uncredited and among them Casablanca, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and The Blue Dahlia.
