Marguerite Chapuy

Marguerite Chapuy was a French soprano whose stage career lasted only a few years. She trained for the theatre under the actor François-Joseph Regnier before turning to singing, studying with Belloni and then Arnoldi and continuing in Brussels through the Franco-Prussian War. At the Opéra-Comique she created Philomèle in Delibes's Le roi l'a dit in 1873 and Micaëla in Carmen two years later, and within eight days in 1876 created Catherine in Maréchal's Les amoureux de Catherine and sang Baucis in Gounod's revised Philémon et Baucis. She married the army officer Louis André that year and left the stage.
