Camille du Locle

Camille du Locle served as assistant to Émile Perrin at the Paris Opéra through the 1860s. He wrote the French prose scenario Verdi worked from for Aida, completed the libretto of Don Carlos after Joseph Méry died, and made the French translations of Aida, La forza del destino and Simon Boccanegra. He ran the Opéra-Comique with Adolphe de Leuven from 1870. De Leuven thought the subject of Carmen indecent and left the theatre over it in 1874, after which du Locle ran the house alone and brought the work to the stage. The theatre's finances did not survive the experiment, and he resigned in 1876.
