Camille du Locle

Camille du Locle served as assistant to Émile Perrin at the Paris Opéra through the 1860s. He completed the libretto of Don Carlos after Joseph Méry died, worked Mariette's plot for Aida into a scenario with Verdi, and made the French translations of Aida, La forza del destino and Simon Boccanegra, and with Boito of Otello. He ran the Opéra-Comique with Adolphe de Leuven from 1870. De Leuven, thinking the subject of Carmen indecent, left over it in 1874, and du Locle staged the work alone. The theatre's finances did not survive it, and he resigned in 1876.
