Maria Elizarova

Maria Elizarova was a Russian lyric soprano who sang Xenia at the 1928 Leningrad premiere of the original 1869 Boris Godunov. She trained at the Petrograd Conservatory under Natalia Iretskaya, and from 1919 sang for three decades at the Maly Opera Theatre while also appearing at the Mariinsky from 1921 to 1939, in more than thirty roles from the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro to Tatyana and Cio-Cio-San. She stayed through the siege, singing Frasquita in a concert Carmen in July 1942, and afterwards advised its opera company on voice. Her son was the tenor Vladimir Atlantov.
