Henry Ely

Henry Ely was a Dominican tenor who came to singing through the Coro José Oviedo García, and from 1964 studied at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and then at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. A three-year engagement followed, in which he sang La traviata and Pagliacci. The heart of his career was at home: he was a fixture of the opera productions mounted at the Teatro Nacional in Santo Domingo through the 1970s and 1980s, created Alonso de Ojeda in Antonio Braga's 1492 epopea lirica d'America in 1992, and was honoured with the Talía de Plata.
