Walter Höfermayer

Walter Höfermayer was an Austrian baritone who studied with Josef von Manowarda and began his career in 1927 at Teplitz-Schönau, where he spent five seasons, then sang at Ulm, Oldenburg, Aachen and Königsberg before creating the Count in the world premiere of Strauss's Capriccio at Munich in 1942, as a member of the Bavarian State Opera. He was a member of the Vienna State Opera from 1945 to 1954 and continued at the Vienna Volksoper until 1967. In the 1930s he gained wide popularity through film work, appearing in several screen adaptations of operas.
