Walter Höfermayer

Walter Höfermayer was an Austrian baritone who studied with Josef von Manowarda and made his stage debut at Eger in 1927, singing at Teplitz-Schönau, Ulm, Oldenburg, Aachen and Königsberg before creating the Count in the world premiere of Strauss's Capriccio at Munich in 1942, as a member of the Bavarian State Opera. He was a member of the Vienna State Opera from 1945 to 1954 and continued at the Vienna Volksoper until 1967. In the 1930s he gained wide popularity through film work, appearing in several screen adaptations of operas.
