Eugenia Mantelli

Eugenia Mantelli was an Italian mezzo-soprano who also sang soprano parts, Brünnhilde among them. Trained by her parents, both voice teachers, and at the Milan Conservatory, she made her 1883 Lisbon debut as Urbain in Les Huguenots, then toured Europe and South America. She created Éboli in the 1886 Modena Don Carlo and Guinevere in Bemberg's Elaine at the Metropolitan Opera, where she sang from 1894 to 1899 and again in 1903. Léonor in La favorite was her best part at the Met. She later sang in vaudeville, returning to the Teatro de São Carlos to teach.
