Eugenia Mantelli

Eugenia Mantelli was an Italian mezzo-soprano of wide range. Trained by her parents, voice teachers, and at the Milan Conservatory, she made her 1883 debut in Lisbon as Urbain in Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots, then toured Europe and South America, partnering Julián Gayarré and, at the Bolshoi in 1894, Francesco Tamagno. She created Éboli in the 1886 Modena Don Carlo and Guinevere in the Metropolitan Opera's 1894 premiere of Bemberg's Elaine, debuting as Amneris in Aida; a Covent Garden debut as Léonor in La favorita followed in 1896. She settled in Lisbon from 1905, last appearing on stage in 1910.
