Mario Martínez

Mario Martínez is a Dominican baritone who grew up in Santo Domingo and began there in medicine and sociology before music took over. He created Bohecio in Antonio Braga's 1492 epopea lirica d'America at the Teatro Nacional in 1992, and emigrated to the United States the following year, taking a master's and a doctorate at the Eastman School of Music. He has sung leading roles with regional companies across the United States and in China, Britain and the Dominican Republic. He teaches at Nazareth University in Rochester, where he has directed the School of Music.
