Myra Merritt

Myra Merritt is an American soprano who created Lily in Houston Grand Opera's 1976 Porgy and Bess, and went on to sing the title role of Bess in the same opera at the Metropolitan Opera. Trained at the Peabody Conservatory and the Catholic University of America, she made her 1982 Met debut as the Shepherd in Tannhäuser under James Levine, and sang Musetta in La bohème, Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Elvira in L'italiana in Algeri there. Her career also took her to Berlin, Budapest, Finland and Russia. She is now Professor of Voice at Bowling Green State University.
