Aenne Michalsky

Aenne Michalsky was an Austrian soprano, a member of the Vienna State Opera from 1924 to 1955, who appeared regularly at the Salzburg Festival between 1928 and 1941, where she created the First Elf in the premiere of the revised Die ägyptische Helena in 1933. Specialising in supporting roles as servants, maids and pages, she sang Marianne Leitmetzerin in Der Rosenkavalier 113 times at the Vienna State Opera, and occasionally took leading parts such as Liù in Turandot and Micaëla in Carmen. She performed under conductors including Wilhelm Furtwängler, Bruno Walter and Clemens Krauss across more than forty operas, and also appeared in concert, including Mahler's Second Symphony.
