Gaetano Monti

A bass, who created the Grand Inquisitor in the Naples Don Carlos at the San Carlo in December 1872. He sang in the first performance of Dall'Olio's Fieramosca at Bologna in 1875, and at La Fenice in Venice was Claudius in the first Italian Hamlet and the parish priest in the premiere of Schira's Lia, both in 1876. At La Scala he was the Archbishop in the premiere of Pinsuti's Mattia Corvino in 1877, and he was still taking small parts there in 1895, in Saint-Saëns's Henry VIII.
