Filippo Patierno
Birthplace: Naples, Kingdom of the Two Sicilies
Filippo Patierno was a Neapolitan tenor with a powerful voice of baritonal warmth. He made his debut at Florence in 1860 and sang across Italy, at Reggio Emilia, Piacenza, where he created a role in Ponchielli's Roderico re dei Goti in 1863, Genoa, Rome and Venice. He created the title role in the 1872 Naples Don Carlo, and from 1873 to 1876 at the Teatro Regio in Turin sang Radamès, Arnold, Vasco da Gama and Gomes's Salvator Rosa. A very stout man, he died suddenly in Milan in 1877, before his first appearance at La Scala.
