Julius Puttlitz

Julius Puttlitz was a German bass who trained at the Sondershausen Conservatory and the Nuremberg Music Academy under B. Günzburger. He toured the United States with the Damrosch Opera Company in 1895 and 1896, then held engagements at Linz and Rostock before joining the Dresden Court Opera in 1906, where he remained until his final performance in July 1932. There he created the Tutor of Orestes in the premiere of Strauss's Elektra in 1909 and the Police Inspector in the premiere of Der Rosenkavalier in 1911, and sang a repertoire that ran from Wagner, as King Henry in Lohengrin, Hunding in Die Walküre and Hagen in Götterdämmerung, to comedy, as Bartolo in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia.
