Carl Risse

Birthplace: Borna, near Oschatz, Electorate of Saxony
Carl Risse trained as a schoolteacher and worked as an assistant teacher and organist at Delitzsch before joining the Dreyssig Singakademie in Dresden in 1820 and studying voice with Miksch. He acted and sang in the German company of the Dresden court theatre from 1823, spent two seasons as a bass at Augsburg, and returned to Dresden in July 1829 for a further twenty-six years, creating Cecco del Vecchio in Wagner's Rienzi, Daland in Der fliegende Holländer and Reinmar von Zweter in Tannhäuser. He taught at the Dresden Conservatory from its founding in 1856 until his death.
