Martha Rohs

Martha Rohs trained with her father, then in Paris, Leipzig and Saarbrücken, and made her debut at Aachen in 1932. After a season at Heidelberg and three at the Zurich Opera, she was at the Dresden State Opera from 1937 to 1944, creating the Second Maid in the premiere of Strauss's Daphne in 1938. Hitler conferred the title Kammersängerin on her in 1939. She sang concurrently at the Vienna State Opera, as a member from 1938 to 1941 and from 1947 to 1959. Her best parts were trouser roles: Cherubino, Octavian and Sesto.
