Dorothea Siebert

Dorothea Siebert was a German soprano who studied in Berlin and Vienna and made her stage debut in 1943 at Marburg an der Drau, then held engagements at Klagenfurt from 1945 to 1948 and Graz from 1948 to 1951. She joined the Vienna State Opera in 1951 and created Semele in the premiere of Strauss's Die Liebe der Danae at the Salzburg Festival the following August, going on to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in 1956 and the Zurich Opera from 1964 to 1975. She sang at the Bayreuth Festival for seventeen consecutive years from 1954, as a Flower Maiden in Parsifal and the Woodbird in Siegfried, and appeared as a guest at Covent Garden, the Paris Opéra and the Teatro San Carlo. Her repertoire included Fiordiligi, Cherubino and Octavian.
