Albin Swoboda Jr.

Albin Swoboda Jr. was a German bass-baritone, the son of the tenor and actor Albin Swoboda and the soprano Friederike Fischer, both prominent in Vienna operetta. He built a career of more than forty years chiefly at the Stuttgart Opera, where he created the Harlequin in the premiere of Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos in 1912, Mung Tha Bya in the premiere of Hindemith's Das Nusch-Nuschi in 1921, and Don Diego in the premiere of Othmar Schoeck's Don Ranudo de Colibrados at Zurich in 1919. In 1910 he witnessed the murder of the soprano Anna Sutter, with whom he was romantically involved, by the conductor Aloys Obrist.
