Horst Taubmann

Horst Taubmann was a German lyric tenor who studied in Dresden and made his stage debut at Chemnitz in 1933, as Lyonel in Flotow's Martha. He sang at Stuttgart from 1935 and Freiburg from 1937, before Clemens Krauss called him to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in 1940, where he created Flamand in the premiere of Strauss's Capriccio in 1942. He was given a range of Wagner roles there, achieving particular success as Lohengrin, and was made a Kammersänger.
