Vasily Tikhy

Vasily Tikhy was a Russian tenor whose Mariinsky debut was the Holy Fool at the 1928 Leningrad premiere of the original 1869 Boris Godunov, a part that stayed among his finest: one reviewer found in it a whole people's sorrow. He had left the Leningrad Conservatory the year before and went straight into the company, singing more than fifty roles across twenty-three years, Lensky, Almaviva, the Duke, Berendey, and both Bayan and Finn in Ruslan and Lyudmila. He was made an Honoured Artist of the RSFSR in 1939 and left the stage in the year he died.
