Lyudmila Vedernikova

Lyudmila Vedernikova was a Russian mezzo-soprano who gave her whole career to one house, joining the Mariinsky company in 1916 and singing there until 1953. She made her debut as Vanya in Glinka's A Life for the Tsar, and among the parts that followed were Olga in Eugene Onegin, a Polovtsian maiden in Prince Igor and Fyodor in Boris Godunov, which she sang at the 1928 Leningrad premiere of the original 1869 version. The new Soviet repertory brought her the first Russian Linetta in Prokofiev's The Love for Three Oranges. She sang alongside Chaliapin and under Vladimir Dranishnikov.
