Ernst Wachter

Ernst Wachter was a German bass who studied with Albert Goldberg in Leipzig and made his debut at the Dresden Court Opera in 1894 as Ferrando in Il trovatore. He remained there into the 1900s, creating Jörg Pöschel in the premiere of Strauss's Feuersnot in 1901 and the Cappadocian in the premiere of Salome in 1905, and appeared at the Bayreuth Festival between 1896 and 1899, singing Fasolt, Hunding and Gurnemanz. He later sang at the Zurich Stadttheater and in Leipzig, where he turned to teaching from 1919 until his death in 1931.
